Avril Hutch studied fine art (painting) at Boston College, Massachusetts while undertaking her postgraduate degree in History and is currently studying at the National College of Art and Design, Dublin. She is based in Dublin, Ireland.

Avril has lived, worked and traveled extensively in Europe, North and South America, Africa and the Asia Pacific Region. She is passionate about exploring new cultures and learning about the lives of the people she meets. She has photographed and collected a wide variety of fabrics and quirky mementos from her travels, which are often used to inspire her artwork.

Avril works on acrylics (i.e. plastics) to create translucent pieces of art. Avril’s artwork is unique in that it is undertaken on a transparent canvas.

The ‘Massey’ Series, which has featured on RTE’s Nationwide Programme, marries the themes, colours and textures of Avril’s childhood in Cork, Ireland and her work in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

Avril has exhibited her work at the CEAD NCAD Summer Exhibition 2014 and the East Cork Art Festival 2014.

Avril’s work is suited to commercial, public or private environments. Work can be adapted to reflect existing colour themes and to meet particular size specifications. Commissions are welcome.
